Founded by creative partners Joanne Hair and Andrew Newth in 2002, Duotone Design & Communication (Duo Design) works directly with business owners, providing the advantages of an in-house digital and brand specialist on a project by project basis. With a complementary skillset and shared expertise in all things design and digital, collaboration is key to the studio's process.

A visual communications specialist, Joanne's mix of creative and strategic thinking has seen her carve out a niche in brand strategy, design, and communications. She has delivered brand strategy and identity implementation to leading organisations in architecture, education, engineering, healthcare, and science. Past projects have won national awards for annual reporting, event management, along with MfE NZ Green Ribbon Award for WRC’s State of the Environment report. After completing a B.A and studies in Applied Arts she began her career as a studio designer in an ad agency and assistant art curator. Later Joanne moved into local government holding roles in brand management, design and communications before founding Duo Design. She currently contributes to Te Pukenga’s Wintec’s Visual Communication Degree as Designer in Residence, and is a member of Wintec’s Post Graduate Industry Panel.

An experienced brand and website designer Andrew Newth has project managed, designed, and developed hundreds of websites over the past two decades. Trained in Multimedia, he has crafted a myriad of brand and digital solutions that solve gritty problems for our clients. Andrew is responsible for turning your dream into fully functioning reality. He creates digital solutions, implementing content management systems, custom website designs, and SEO expertise. He takes a big picture approach to understand the full scope of your brief. A musician and composer, before founding Duo Design Andrew worked in radio and music production, and currently produces music as Southern Tribe and is a member of the band System Corporation.
